Walmart Is Adding Breastfeeding Pods In Stores To Support Nursing Moms And They Sound Amazing

By: Liz Hall

We all know that young kids, particularly babies, can get hungry just about anywhere. That includes while we’re out shopping. I remember when I was a young mom and how difficult it sometimes was for me to find a comfortable spot to nurse my kids.

Juggling the diaper bag and nursing a hungry child? It’s rarely easy. But Walmart recently shared some exciting news that should help lactating moms all over the U.S.: they’re adding breastfeeding pods from Mamava to 100 Walmart stores around the country.

Did you know that the Mamava Original was the category creator of freestanding lactation spaces? With spacious benches,…

These lactation pods offer a bit of privacy and space, and can be used by lactating moms, whether they’re breastfeeding or pumping. They’re also 100% free to use. Simply locate one with a Mamava app (they exist in other public spaces too!). The app shares an occupancy indicator so that moms can see if the breastfeeding pod is available.

Inside, Mamava has done just about everything they can to offer a private, distraction-free zone. Through the app, moms can even adjust the pod’s settings, including the airflow and lighting. If you want, you can even listen to soothing sounds. When I think back to all those times that I tried to nurse my kids out in public — and how distracted they often got — these breastfeeding pods would have been a dream!

The whole idea for adding breastfeeding pods to Walmart stores started with an associate, Tennille Webb, who used a pod while traveling. She advocated for adding pods to Walmart, and told CNN:

When I discovered and used the Mamava pod that first time, it was a game-changer for me, and I knew it would be a great option that gives my fellow Walmart associates and our customers another choice in their breastfeeding journey… I’m honored to see that my idea has come to reality in our stores. It’s teaching my son how one person can make a big difference.

While a handful of stores already have the Mamava breastfeeding pods, Walmart expects to have them in at least 100 stores by the end of 2020.
