Campuses have been largely silent these days but last month on the campus of Portland State University, two gorgeous voices blended beautifully to puncture that silence.
Madisen Hallberg is a college senior and a gifted singer. She was asked to sing the national anthem for her school’s virtual graduation. As Madisen was warming up, the camera crew began to film. Serendipitously, Emmanuel “Onry” Henreid who lives in the area happened to be wandering through the park in an effort to get some fresh air. When he heard Madisen’s singing, he decided to be “brave” and ask the crew if he could join in.

In an absolutely breath-taking moment the two sang in gorgeous harmony.
It turns out that Onry is a professional opera singer and has performed the world over. The two are so glad they were able to share this experience.
Madisen told ABC News that what happened between the two was,
“symbolic for what we need to do as a people and as community is to not try to out sing the person next to you but blend with them, harmonize with them.
For his part Onry said,
It was a beautiful moment that we shared and in that moment I realized it is essential for us to raise our voices in empowerment and in love with one another.
We could not agree more.
