When you’re out of ideas for what to feed your baby, one of the easiest things you can make is khichdi! Khichdi is a nutritious one pot meal which doesn’t take long to cook and can include any ingredient you have on hand. Whether it’s tomato khichdi, spinach khichdi, vegetable khichdi or masala khichdi, you can choose whatever your baby will like.
Today, we’ve got a yummy khichdi that uses slightly different ingredients – coriander and curd. Not many people use coriander in baby food, but they’re missing out! Coriander has several health benefits and it’s a wonderful source of dietary fiber, manganese, iron and magnesium. Dal is among the ideal first foods for babies as they are highly nutritious and filled with protein, fat, vitamin and minerals. Curd helps to soothe the baby’s developing digestive system making this dish an all rounder!
Ingredients:
- Rice – 2 Tbsp.
- Toor Dal – 1 Tbsp.
- Chopped Coriander – 1 Tbsp.
- Curd – 4 Tbsp.
- Ghee – ½ Tsp
- Jeera Powder – ¼ Tsp
- Turmeric Powder – A Pinch
- Hing – A Pinch (Optional)

Method:
1. Take the rice and dal in separate bowls.
2. Wash and rinse the rice and dal thoroughly, soak them for 30 minutes. Then drain the water.
3. Heat the cooker, drizzle some ghee in it.
4. Add rice and dal, saute for few minutes.
5. Add turmeric, jeera, hing and coriander and saute well.
6. Add 1 cup of water and close the lid.
8. Let it cook for 3- 4 whistles.
9. Let the mixture cool.
10. Add 4 tbsp. of curd and mash well.
11. Serve warm.
For best results, use homemade curd in all of baby’s dishes. This dish also works well for fussy toddlers who aren’t in the mood for eating anything spicy. The mild flavors and cooling effect of the curd make it the perfect dish for anyone who’s not up for anything packed with masalas and colors!
