Grown and Flown Fall Style: Navy from Head to Toe

By: Pam Harris

Time to discuss monochromatic dressing- all in Navy blue – a style I have been exploring lately.

all blue

The other day I wore the J. Crew wide-leg cropped trousers that Pam mentioned in the last post and a $15 Everlane navy v-neck t-shirt to a meeting.

You wouldn’t have believed what a stir I caused, everyone asked me who I was wearing and repeatedly told me I looked like a celebrity! The entire ensemble was no more than $120.

The reason? While many of us default to all black as an easy way to dress, there’s nothing like choosing another shade to go monochromatic that projects style and confidence. Navy blue is an especially great choice. Navy just seems to look great on everyone (“I look terrible in Navy”, said no one ever) and all blue just exudes luxury. It is a definite wardrobe upgrader.

This navy blue twill coat from Eileen Fisher is all about shape: a wide angled collar, with a flattering crossover front. You have the option of tying it with a belt paired with these stretchy and fluid, wide-leg pants. The whole look telegraphs easy elegance.

I have been a fan of Tibi for a long time and this season the brand really brought the glam, in Navy of course! This dolman sleeve top features a luxurious velvet and paired with these, of the moment, velvet culotte pants.  Très chic!
The best part about Navy mono dressing is you can bring use great accessories to bring the pop into your outfit. And while you know I am a devoted minimalist, I have to admit that nothing is making more of a splash this fall than statement earrings, worn day or night. These two by Kenneth Jay lane, full-on diamonds and waterfall clip-ons, are super glam.
These well-priced Baublebar purple beaded tassel earrings will clearly command attention, especially with an all-navy ensemble.
And – how cute is this midnight navy Coach bag with any of the outfits above? This Michael Kors chain bag in Oxblood will look divine with any of these picks.

Dressing head to toe in any color oozes confidence in its simplicity and understated quality, the definition of easy elegance.

So we say pick a color and go for it – and if you choose mustard, be sure to send us photos!

XoXo

We’ve always been a little obsessed with style and how we use clothes to help us feel attractive and self-confident. You’ll often find us yelling at each other over dressing room walls, or trading texts at midnight about that one pair of size 8 boots left on sale online at Nordstrom.com. But over time, we’ve found that dressing and feeling great has become much more challenging. And that’s even more frustrating now that every moment has turned into a photo opp.

We want to feel comfortable and appropriate with our style choices so that we can face the world each morning with confidence and ease. We’re in search of cool, effortless style that makes us feel amazing and powerful at this very age.
