Barley is a protein rich staple first food for babies. It also has folate and vitamin A in abundance. The fiber rich quality of apple can help to maintain the tummy health. Ghee is good for weight gain and it can be added in baby’s diet after 6 months. We have made this recipe with ghee as ghee is rich in omega 3 fatty acids which can help in brain development of babies. Apple barley porridge has the natural sweetness of apple and hence easy to convince your little one’s taste buds.

  • Apple – 1
  • Barley – 3 tbsp.
  • Ghee – 1 tsp

Method:

1. Wash and soak barley for 30 minutes.

2. Heat ghee in a pan.

3. Add the soaked barley and saute for few minutes.

4. Add chopped apple and saute.

5. Add 1 cup of water.

6. On low flame, cover and cook for 5 minutes.

7. Mash the porridge.

8. Serve warm.

This recipe is suitable for babies above 6 months. Apples are good for constipation and for upset stomach as well. Adding apple to barley can make it a filling diet for babies. While introducing for the first time, the recipe has to be given only in daytime. Then it can be given in any convenient timing. Pearl barley can also be used instead of barley flakes. For babies above 1 year, the same recipe can be made using cow’s milk.
