You can make so many different things with this homemade Bisquick mix, from pancakes, to biscuits, to strawberry shortcake! There’s no need to buy the boxed version when you can make your own Bisquick mix substitute at home!

What Ingredients Do I Need To Make Homemade Bisquick Mix?

The best part about this recipe is that it’s made out of ingredients you probably already have in the pantry!

I love that you can make this mix ahead of time and refrigerate it for up to three months. It’s just as convenient as the box mix from the store.

Why run to the store when you can stay home in your sweatpants and make your own Bisquick mix.

Ingredients – Homemade Bisquick Recipe 

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ tablespoons baking powder
  • 1 ½ teaspoons salt
  • ½ cup (1 stick) butter, cold and cubed

Don’t forget to save some flour for your rolling pin and work surface when rolling out your biscuits.

How to Make Homemade Bisquick Mix

  • Makes: 3 ½ cups
  • Prep Time: 10 min

You don’t need any fancy equipment for this copycat Bisquick mix recipe! All you need is a mixing bowl, a whisk, a fork or a pastry blender, and an airtight storage container.

Start with all of your dry ingredients.

Step 1

Whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.

Using a fork or pastry blender, fold the slices of butter into the mix.

Step 2

Cut butter into flour mixture using a pastry blender or fork.

Do you have some unused Mason jars sitting around? They are perfect for storing your homemade Bisquick mix.

Step 3

Transfer to airtight container and store in refrigerator for up to 3 months.

Food Processor Method for Homemade Bisquick Mix:

If you prefer, you can easily make this Bisquick mix substitute with a food processor.

Step 1

Add flour, baking powder and salt to food processor.

Step 2

Pulse to combine.

Step 3

Add butter and pulse until mixture is coarse and resembles cornmeal.

Step 4

Transfer to airtight container and store in refrigerator for up to 3 months.

Slice your leftover biscuits before freezing them so that they are easier to thaw and prepare!

How to Make Biscuits From Homemade Bisquick Mix

There are tons of recipes made with Bisquick mix, but biscuits are my favorite. They are so versatile and can be served with breakfast as breakfast sandwiches, or biscuits with jelly, or even served with soup or a meal for lunch and dinner!

This Homemade Biscuits Recipe

  • Makes 8 biscuits if you use a 2.5 inch cutter

Ingredients – Homemade Biscuits

  • 1 ½ cups homemade Bisquick mix
  • ½ cup milk
Step 1

Lightly spray cookie sheet with non-stick cooking spray.

Step 2

Preheat oven to 400 degrees.

Step 3

Combine ingredients in a medium bowl until soft dough forms.

Step 4

Knead dough until well combined.

Any circular cookie cutter works, but I cannot say enough about the cookie cutters with handles!

Step 5

On a lightly floured surface, roll dough out with a rolling pin to about ½ inch thick and cut with a round cookie cutter.

Step 6

Alternatively, drop by tablespoons onto greased baking sheet.

Step 7

Bake for 7-9 minutes or until golden brown.

Don’t let gluten allergies stop you from making your own gluten free Bisquick mix.

How Do I Make Gluten Free Bisquick Mix and Gluten Free Biscuits?

This is a simple substitution! Just use gluten free all-purpose flour, and make sure that your baking powder is also gluten free. That’s it, and it is most likely cheaper than buying the gluten free boxed Bisquick mix in the store!

The recipe for homemade Bisquick mix and biscuits can be easily tailored to fit the diet of vegans and those with dairy allergies.

Vegan Homemade Bisquick Mix and Vegan Biscuits

In order to make your homemade Bisquick mix vegan, you will need to use vegan butter and a plant-based milk–such as almond milk or rice milk. 

Yield: 3 1/2 cups

I have always been a fan of store-bought Bisquick mix...until I learned how to make my own! This recipe comes in so handy, especially if you are out of the boxed mix!

Total Time 19 minutes 7 seconds
