How did we end up making a unicorn poop sugar cookie recipe?  Let me tell you…

The other day my daughter walked into the living room, full of giggles. When I asked her why she was laughing all I could get our of her was, “I know what unicorn poop looks like.”

What on earth?

I followed to her computer where she had found a recipe to make cookies shaped like unicorn poop! She begged to make them, but it didn’t take much convincing. I was totally on board to make some sparkly rainbow cookies shaped like unicorn poop!

Make Unicorn Poop Cookies

This was a really fun colorful recipe to make together.  You could make it easier by using a packaged sugar cookie mix or make your own with the recipe on the Unicorn Poop Sugar Cookie recipe card at the bottom of this article…

What You Need To Make Unicorn Poop Cookies:

  • Sugar Cookie Mix (You can make your own, but we just used store bought from a bag in the baking aisle)
  • Gel Dye Food Coloring (Try these natural food dyes)
  • Sprinkles (We used stars and silver sugar)

Making unicorn cookie dough is easy & fun!

How To Make Unicorn Poop Cookies

  1. Mix up the sugar cookie dough according to the package.
  2. Split the dough equally into bowls. You need one bowl for each color, so if you use four dyes like we did, then you will need four bowls.
  3. Stir the dye into the bowl and let it chill in the freezer for about 30 minutes.
  4. Take out your dough and  split it up into cookie sized pieces. Now you can sort of mix the dough together so it looks like a rainbow swirl. Don’t overmix, or you will end up mixing all the pretty colors together.
  5. Roll it out into a snake and spin it around until it looks like a piece of poop.
  6. Cook according to package directions and add the sprinkles!

Yum!

Prep Time 20 minutes

Cook Time 10 minutes

Total Time 30 minutes

Ingredients

  • 2 3/4 cup of flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 4 gel dye food coloring colors
  • Sprinkles -- not optional {giggle}
  • (Optional) Clear gel icing

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  2. In a small bowl, stir together flour, baking soda, and baking powder.
  3. In a larger bowl, cream sugar and butter then beat in egg and vanilla.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients and blend.
  5. Split the dough equally into 4 bowls and stir in a different food coloring dye into each bowl.
  6. Chill in freezer for 30 minutes.
  7. Take out dough and split into small pieces. Grab one small ball of each color and roll dough out into a snake shape that is about 1/2 inch in diameter.
  8. DO NOT OVER-MIX.
  9. Twirl the snake into a unicorn poop plop.
  10. (Optional) add sprinkles now.
  11. Bake for 10 minutes.
  12. (Optional) add gel frosting/icing and sprinkles.

Notes

The big issue is over-mixing and causing the colors to over-combine into a new brownish color...not yummy!
