Chikoo has a flavor that’s no less than any ice cream, making this Chikoo puree the ideal healthy dessert substitute for little babies!
Sometimes it’s amazing how Nature gives us exactly what we want. Humans are known for craving desserts like ice cream, and we often satisfy these cravings by indulging in unhealthy treats like sugar laden desserts. All this while we have perfectly healthy natural options in the form of fruit!
When it comes to fruit, one of my favorites that serve as dessert is the chikoo, also known as Sapota or Sapodilla. Chikoos are deliciously sweet, with a grainy flesh that reminds us of ice cream or mousse. The best part is that chikoos are suitable for babies over 6 months of age. Now even your baby can have dessert!
Besides being sweet and yummy, chikoos ar also a rich source of iron, copper and potassium. They’re also high in calories, helping babies gain weight while also strengthening the immune system and easing the bowel movements. Here’s how you can make a simple chikoo puree for your baby.
Ingredients:
- 2 Ripe Sapota/ Chikoo
Method:
- Select fresh ripe chikoo fruit which has a firm outer skin. Cut the fruit from middle into 2 parts. Remove the seeds and scoop out the inner soft pulpy part with a spoon.
- Pulse the chikoo pulp in a grinder jar to obtain a smooth puree. You may add water or breastmilk to thin out the puree. In the later stage you may just mash the chikoo pulp with a fork and serve the baby.
This recipe is suitable for 6 months+ babies. You can start by giving a puree of chikoo which is diluted with breast milk. Later on you may add other fruits like banana to the chikoo puree and feed your baby. For older kids, you can add mashed banana to the chikoo puree and freeze it for an easy homemade ice cream!
