We found the magic stain remover! Our van floor was nasty – the carpet was covered with stains. Really nasty. Remember when we organized our van, well, let’s just say it was not that pristine anymore. Time for a “fall cleaning”.
I can’t remember where I first got the recipe from, but we shared it on our blog roughly two years ago and it’s genius.
All you need are two ingredients plus water and a tiny bit of elbow grease. One is a common household item & the other one of our favorite essential oils! This post contains affiliate/distributor links that support Kids Activities Blog.
Homemade Carpet Stain Remover
This is great for your car, in your home, rugs. However, make sure you try it out on a small spot first and then continue on if everything is alright. We have never had any problems, but everyone’s rugs are different and will react differently with hydrogen which can bleach things.
You can add more water to dilute it if you’re worried.
Supplies Needed To Make Homemade Carpet Cleaner With Peroxide
Materials:
Use bottle of hydrogen peroxide that is 1/3 full. If you have a full bottle, either pour some of it out, or use another dark colored bottle. Any clear or semi-translucent bottles will break down the hydrogen-peroxide neutralizing the cleaner.
Fill the bottle the remaining 2/3 of the way full of water. Add 5 drops of lemon essential oil. Shake lightly.
The peroxide breaks down stains and the lemon oil helps release sticky particles.
It turns out they also sell Hydrogen Peroxide already in a spray bottle, on Amazon! You can approximately 10 drops of lemon oil to this size container. Shake lightly to mix!
How To Use The Best Homemade Carpet Stain Remover
- Liberally spray the carpet with the cleaner mix.
- After the mix has set for a min or so, use the scrub brush to loosen the fibers. The yucky stuff moves to the surface.
- Use a rag an wipe the carpet, blotting out any liquid.
- Repeat a couple of times until your carpet is clean.
- You can also use this cleaning mix on upholstered furniture.
For super stubborn stains, or say gum ground into your carpet, try the steam cleaner! Bet you didn’t think of these ways to use a steam cleaner.
