Did you know that popcorn is a whole-grain maize product, grown extensively in the corn belt states of the U.S.? It’s like corn-on-the-cob in appearance and cultivation, but only popcorn kernels are capable of popping.

Popcorn’s ability to pop lies in the fact that the kernels contain a small amount of water stored in a circle of soft starch inside the hard outer casing. When heated, the water expands, creating pressure within, until eventually the casing gives way and the kernels explode and pop. This allows the water to escape as steam, turning the kernels inside out.

So cool!

Spider-Man Popcorn Balls Recipe

I got everything I needed from Walmart, but I’m sure you can find these simple ingredients anywhere. I’m so full of snack ideas for kids, I need to use online grocery ordering just to keep it managable! Here is what you need to make these Spider-Man popcorn balls:

  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1 Tbsp water
  • 10 oz. bag mini marshmallows
  • Red food coloring
  • 1 1/2 bags ACT II popcorn
  • Clear treat bags
  • Permanent marker

How to Make Spiderman Popcorn Balls

Start by melting the butter on medium-low heat. Once it is fully melted, add water and food coloring and mix until combined. Add the package of marshmallows and cook, stirring continuously, until melted.

Pour in the popcorn and use a wooden spoon to ensure it is coated in the marshmallow mixture. Another delicious twist on this recipe is to make strawberry popcorn!

Rub butter on your hands and then shape the popcorn into balls, placing on a sheet of wax paper to cool.

While the popcorn is cooling, grab your treat bags and use a permanent marker to draw the Spider-Man: Far From Home symbol onto the front. Once the popcorn balls are ready, add to a bag and secure with curling ribbon.

Swap this recipe out for Halloween popcorn by dying the popcorn orange! The spider still works for a spooky treat!
