The secret to adding flavor to creamy potato soup is the simmering together of all of these ingredients.

If you’re wondering how to add flavor to potato soup, this is the answer! All of the following ingredients together make an incredibly rich and flavorful soup recipe.

I went ahead and found most of the items on Amazon Fresh, so you can click and order them in a snap, if you’d like! If you make a qualifying purchase, kidsactivitiesblog.com will receive a commission! Isn’t that neat?

Here’s what you’ll need:

Step 1: Prepare the potato soup ingredients for cooking.

Peel and chop potatoes into cubes. Chop bacon into thin slices. Cut the white portion of the leeks into thin slices.

Step 2: Start cooking the soup in a large soup pot.

This recipe makes a large batch, so be sure to start cooking it in a large soup pot. Fry the bacon and drain off the fat except for a couple tablespoons.

A large soup pot filled with soup ingredients with a cup of broth beside it.

Add potatoes, leeks, and chicken broth to the fried bacon.

Add leeks, potatoes, and chicken broth. Boil for 30 minutes or until potatoes are soft.

Step 3: Once potatoes are cooked through, add the final ingredients to make it rich and creamy.

Using a potato masher, mash the potatoes well. It is okay to leave a few chunks. This adds body and helps to make the potato soup thick.

Add milk, heavy whipping cream, and cheese. Stir until blended and cheese is melted.

Add sour cream and seasonings. Stir until blended.

You can reserve some of the fried bacon for a garnish for the top of each soup bowl.

This recipe can be easily adapted for your slow cooker. To do so, fry the bacon separately and place in the bottom of a slow cooker. Then, add everything except the dairy ingredients.  Cook on LOW for 8 hours. Add the dairy ingredients during the last 30 minutes of cooking time.

Can this Easy Potato Soup Recipe be frozen?

This creamy loaded Potato Soup recipe is  a meal that can be made ahead. It actually tastes even better on the second day! However, it’s probably best to skip freezing this soup to use later. Although it would technically be fine to eat, the texture of potatoes are a bit odd once frozen and defrosted.
