Simone Biles has proven time and time again that she’s not only an amazing gymnast, but she’s also an innovator. Just this past week, she showcased a new balance beam dismount and shared it on both her Instagram and Twitter.
What’s the new move that Simone Biles performed?
Simone Biles, like so many of us, had been in quarantine for about seven weeks. She returned to the gym only a month ago and immediately dove back into training.
While her coach talked about the gymnasts regaining their skills back after being away, the four-time Olympic gymnast champion decided she had something else in mind. She did something no other gymnast has ever done before: a “triple-twisting double back off the balance beam.”
If that sounds pretty epic, that’s because it is. First, while on the balance beam, Simone Biles handsprings twice, and then does an incredible flip off the beam to dismount. It’s called the “triple-double dismount,” but if Simone Biles’s history is an indication, it’ll probably be named after her at some point… that is, if it ever makes it into competition. While the move was impressive, Biles was once docked points for doing something too “dangerous.”
But Biles knows what she’s doing. She knows what she’s capable of, and it’s incredibly impressive and inspiring — including for those of us who have gained the quarantine-fifteen.
This isn’t the first “new” move that Simone Biles has done. Not even a year ago, the phenomenal gymnast completed a double-double dismount off the beam during competition. That move was named the Biles.
Just a few days later, during a floor routine, Biles was the first person ever to complete a triple-double.
These aren’t the only moves created and named after the Olympian either. Clearly, Biles is constantly pushing herself and proving that limits? They don’t exist, at least not for her. And I find that pretty darn inspiring.
