These Penguins Went On A Field Trip To An Art Museum and It’s The Cutest Thing You’ll See All Day

Some very lucky, and adorable, penguins from the Kansas City Zoo recently went on a field trip. Their destination: the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, where they got the chance to wander around and explore famous works of art.

As the museum shared on their Facebook page:

“Quarantine has caused everyone to go a little stir crazy, even the residents of the Kansas City Zoo. So several of the penguins decided to go on a field trip to the Nelson-Atkins, which is still closed, to get a little culture.”

Not only did they want to give the penguins a bit of an adventure, but they were curious about how the penguins would react to the art.

The result? Total cuteness as the penguins waddled their way around the art museum. They also seemed to have some preferences. As they looked around at the art — and seriously, they look like they’re checking out the art! — they appeared to spend more time with the Italian Baroque pieces.

As the museum’s director, Julián Zugazagoitia, shared in the video shared on Facebook, “They seemed, definitely to reach much better to Caravaggio than to Monet.”

Since these penguins are also native to Chile and Peru, they also spoke to Spanish to them. Zugazagoitia joked that he thought the penguins appreciated it. 

The field trip outing was a huge success. As Brittany Lutz, one of the zoo keepers shared on Facebook, “Thank you so much for allowing us to do this! I was so proud of how well the penguins did (they’re extremely skittish in new environments)!”

One thing is for certain. Not only did the zoo “enrich” the lives of the penguins, but they also brought a smile to faces everywhere. At the time of this writing, the video has been shared more than 18,000 times. Then again, my kids and I have watched the video numerous times ourselves. We can’t get enough of the adorable penguins!
