Let’s face it folks, these days we are living in a Zoom world.
And it really doesn’t matter what language you speak because the language of an adult child trying to teach his mom how to use Zoom is universal. It’s where a lot of us meet both our kids and our parents when it comes to technology, at the crossroads of love and frustration.
Yonatan Gruber is an Israeli comedian who was trying to teach his mom how to use Zoom and he struggled to be patient, a struggle that is entirely relatable no matter which side of the divide you are on. Joining, muting, enabling your video, leaving the meeting-it’s not always so intuitive, especially for some of us.
According to the Times of Israel, 31 year old Gruber was attempting to teach his fairly tech savvy 59 year-old mom how to use Zoom. The Times says that Gruber, the third of his mother’s five sons, spent more than an hour with his mother on the phone. It was a painstaking, repetitive, frustrating process. “We finished, and my wife said, ‘Wow, you have so much patience, way to go!’” said Gruber.
Gruber decided to publicly share the video (aptly title “Helping mom start a ZOOM meeting”) with his mother’s permission, and as a mom who sometimes (okay, often) needs her kids coaching on technology, all I have to say is I appreciate his patience and his sense of humor.
And judging by the fact that the video has gone viral, I guess I’m not the only one.
