‘Where’s Waldo?’ Released Free Activities and Printables For Kids

By: Liz Hall

I loved searching for Waldo as a kid. With the enormous double-spread illustrated “Where’s Waldo” books, I spent hours searching for the classic red and white striped t-shirt, glasses, and hat. Now I’m excited to introduce my own kids to Waldo’s adventures.

In addition to the books, Candlewick Press recently released new free activities that will delight kids of all ages while we’re stuck at home.

How to make a “Where’s Waldo” Scavenger Hunt

Kids love a good scavenger hunt. This activity features characters and items from “Where’s Waldo,” and, bonus, it gets the kids moving. It’s a win-win! Plus, it’s super easy to organize. Print off the illustrations from from the book publisher on the Candlewick site. After you’ve hidden the characters and items around the house, challenge your kids to find all 10. Whoever finds the most, wins!

Your family can also participate in hiding challenges through the #WaldoatHome hashtag. Candlewick is posting weekly prompts on their social media sites to encourage kids to be clever in where they hide their Waldo printouts. For example, the latest prompt encourages kids to “Take a picture of Waldo joining in your favorite way to get up and moving.” Share what your kids come up with by posting a photo on social media and using the tag #WaldoatHome.

Free Waldo-Inspired Activities While Stuck At Home

Parents can also download a variety of free Waldo-inspired printables from the children’s book publisher. Kids can make their very own “Where’s Waldo” page (only the famous cartoon character is on the download; the kids create the rest of the setting!). They can design clothes for “Waldo watchers,” play a matching game or word search, and color in Waldo. Have a kid who loves jokes? They’ve got some Waldo-inspired wisecracks your kiddos will love too.

Favorite “Where’s Waldo” Activity Books

While Candlewick will continue to update the Waldo-activity online portal on a regular basis, there’s even more fun and games to be had with Waldo activity books. Our personal favorite right now: the “Boredom Buster” book. This one is perfect when you’re stuck at home. In addition to seek-and-find spreads, the book is jam-packed with word searches, mazes, matching games, quizzes, and more. As a bonus, the pages also have a five-minute challenge. In other words: this will most definitely keep your kids busy!

We may be stuck at home, but at least we can travel and have fun with our favorite wanderer, Waldo.
