Michelle Obama Is Hosting A Weekly Story Time With PBS Kids

Mondays are now “read along” story times with Michelle Obama! The former First Lady is sharing some of her favorite kid’s books through a weekly story time in partnership with PBS Kids and Penguin Random House.  She’s been choosing some fabulous, heartwarming tales that kids young and old love.

Which Children’s Books is Michelle Obama Reading?

The first special read-along with Michelle Obama was shared on Monday, April 20. But don’t worry; kids can still watch her reading of The Gruffalo by Julia Donaldson on PBS Kids’ social media accounts, including their Facebook page. The first video is a quick seven-minute reading from the creators of the popular Room on the Broom.

The Gruffalo is the tale of an imaginative mouse who tries to scare away some animals while taking a walk through the woods. With close-up views of the pages, kids can also enjoy the illustrations all while following along with the text. Obama also does a fabulous job of using different voices as she reads. She clearly has experience reading to young children!

On April 27, Michelle Obama also read There’s a Dragon in Your Book by Tom Fletcher. In this fabulous picture book, Fletcher encourages young kids to save the book from a baby dragon’s flammable sneezes. Just as she was in her first reading, Michelle Obama is engaging and delightful. And kids will most definitely delight in saving the book!

When You Can Tune In To the Latest “Mondays with Michelle Obama”

New “Mondays with Michelle Obama” videos air at 12 pm Eastern for the next couple weeks. On May 4, Michelle will read Miss Maple’s Seeds by Eliza Wheeler. In this charming tale, Miss Maple takes loving care of a variety of seeds before finding the perfect place for them to sprout. 

Michelle Obama truly has picked some wonderful children’s books, ones that both entertain and warm the heart. We can’t wait to see what she picks next!  

This virtual story time is the latest in a series of online readings hosted by authors, illustrators, actors, and other celebrities from all over the world. These readings are perfect for young ones who want to read a new picture book, and for parents who could use a break!
