Author Kwame Alexander Is Reading ‘The Crossover’ Online Every Day This Week

By: Shannon Carino

We love how so many authors are helping kids cope with social distancing by offering glimpses into their worlds via online story time. There’s so many to choose from, especially if you have little ones at home.

This week, middle grade author, Kwame Alexander, is offering one too, reading out loud on Instagram Live from his novel, The Crossover, which won the 2015 Newbery Medal and was Coretta Scott King Award Honor nominee.

The Crossover tells the story of twin brothers, best friends and basketball players, who begin to grow apart as one meets a girl he likes.  The novel is a story in verse, making it a perfect choice to be read by the author.  Alexander is an advocate for reading and writing poetry, with great videos to help students learn to write it on his At Home with Kwame site.

Since Alexander is currently the Innovator-in-Residence at the American School in London, he will be reading The Crossover live on Instagram at 3:30GMT, which translates to 10:30 Eastern Standard Time in the United States.  It’s definitely worth waking up to and watching in your jammies with a cup of cocoa.
