By: Ambili S Kartha

Toddlers are quite vulnerable to many diseases. Roseola is considered a common contagious viral disease that can be seen in toddlers age six months to 3 years. What Is Roseola And What Causes It In Toddlers?

Rosella is a viral infection caused by the virus human herpesvirus six or the human herpesvirus seven, but HHV-6 is the most common cause of this disease. It is a hazardous disease that can be spread easily as it causes high fever in toddlers followed up by skin rashes all over the body.

How Does A Toddler Get Roseola?

As discussed above, Roseola is a transmittable infection. That means, it can be affected by one person to another. Just like a cough and cold, this infection spreads very fast like your child just had water from the same mug that an infected child had must be affected by Rosella. So, keep a check that your baby does not come in contact with the affected baby.

Is Roseola Contagious?

Yes, Roseola is a transferable viral infection. It spreads fast from an infected child to another child. Even if rashes can’t be seen, it can cover at an early age also. So keep a check that your child does not come in contact with the infected person. It is mainly seen in older toddlers because they have less immunity as compared to newborns. A newborn baby gets their immunity from the mother’s womb and is less prone to this infection.

How Is Roseola Treated In Toddlers?

  • Fluid therapy: Make your child drink plenty of fluids including warm water and some beverages that may give him relief from a sore Drinks like clear soups, ginger ale, clear broths, glucose, etc. not only will provide energy but will help in keeping the child hydrated.
  • Apply Coconut Oil On The Rashes: Rashes may be itching and irritable for your child. There is no specific medication for rashes; it will take time. You can apply some coconut oil to it or just rub it smoothly with your hands so the child may get some relief.

  • Maintain a proper diet as prescribed by the baby’s doctor.
  • Also, make sure that your child is away from all the washing liquids and adult creams, which might not be suitable for the baby’s skin.

There is no vaccine that can fully cure your child of Roseola, but with proper guidance, the support and care of a doctor can surely act as a fruitful remedy for it. A toddler can easily recover in 7 to 11 days if the parents have taken good care of it; otherwise, it might take more time for recovery in case of severe conditions. So, let your toddler take full rest and recover fully with time.
