Halloween Bento Box

By: Brittanie

My kids love homemade school lunches and every now and again when we have extra time, we like to make our kids lunches extra special. This year we made a Halloween Bento Box to get our kids in the Halloween spirit and they loved it so much, we had to share it with you!

Before we get started on making this spooky fun lunch, I wanted to answer a few questions I thought you might ask…

 What is a Bento Box?

A bento box is a box filled with different compartments of food. It is traditionally made with Japanese Cuisine but has since become popular among Americans as a fancy way to say a boxed lunch packed with food.

Where Can I Get Bento Box Containers?

If you are wanting to make a boxed lunch like we did, you can grab Bento Box containers right here on Amazon. Although, you can also use any regular lunchbox and use small containers or plastic bags to store each item in.

Okay, now it’s time to put this all together!

What You Need to Make a Halloween Bento Box:

  • Bread
  • Peanut Butter and Jelly (or other toppings for the sandwich)
  • String Cheese still in package
  • Baby Carrots
  • Chocolate Pudding
  • Crushed Oreos
  • Bug Gummy Candies
  • Ranch Dip
  • Celery, Diced
  • Red Food Coloring
  • Black Sharpie
  • Pumpkin Cookie Cutter

How to Make A Halloween Bento Box:

Start by making your sandwich. We used SunButter since our son has a peanut allergy. Then cut out the sandwich using your Pumpkin Cookie Cutter so it is Pumpkin Shaped.

Next, draw a ghost fast on the string cheese using the black sharpie. We put two eyes and a mouth like shown in the video.

Now, use a knife to cut off one side of the bottom of a carrot leaving a duvet like it is a nail bed on a finger. On the opposite side, cut the end like a serrated edge (to resemble a broken finger).

Take a small diced piece of celery and attach it in the duvet of the carrot using a small amount of ranch (this will help it be sticky).

One the serrated edge, apply a bit of food coloring to resemble blood. Yes, these end up looking really creepy cool!

Finally, scoop some chocolate pudding into one side of the bento box and top with crushed Oreos and the bug candies. This is basically a dirt cup and serves as a dessert!

All that is left to do is serve this up to your kids for Halloween and watch their reaction!!
