We often hear and say critical things about teens nowadays: they are lazy, entitled, addicted to their screens, they don’t know how to make “in real life” connections. Well, while some of that may be true, it’s also true that teens can be and often are simply amazing.
Last week Dan Morrison was driving home from work when he saw something worth sharing. Here’s his post:
He decided to write and share this post hoping to draw attention to the wonderful thing three teens did for a stranger and the post quickly went viral. As of today, the post has been shared twenty-three thousand times.
Aeron McQuillin, 18, Bailey Campbell, 17, and Billy Tarbett, 15, were out when they spotted a smoking vehicle. They stopped to help and quickly concluded that the car was no longer driveable. The woman who was driving the car could not afford a tow so the boys offered to push the car 5 miles to her home. Dan Morrison had also stopped to see if he could help.
CNN spoke to Dan who said that he thought the boys’ offer was crazy. Bailly Campbell told CNN that they insisted on pushing the car home because they knew how much they would hate to get stuck.
Aeron posted on his Facebook page that the teens pushed for an hour and a half with Dan driving behind them with his hazard lights on. When they reached their destination they said their goodbyes, never even getting the woman’s full name. He adds that,
The next morning we all woke up to our phones blowing up with messages and Facebook notifications from total strangers, showing their appreciation and gratitude for our random act of kindness. On behalf of bailey, billy and myself – thank you so much to everyone for the kind words and offers of gifts. We hope more people can learn from this situation and not be afraid to lend a helping hand to those in need.
Next time we’re tempted to malign a teen, let’s think about these kids and feel inspired to lend a helping hand instead.
