One of my favorite things to give teachers is gift cards — everyone can use them, and it’s a great way for teachers to get a little something for themselves.
And what better way to give them one than in a cute gift card holder? The best part is you can print them at home! Just make sure that you stock up on good quality printing paper and cardstock!

How Much Should I Spend on a Teacher’s Gift Card?
This is completely up to you and your budget! When my daughter was younger, and there were only one or two classroom teachers, the room parent organized it so that all of the parents would chip in toward one larger gift or gift card.
Now that my daughter is in middle school, we focus in on her core teachers, or the ones who she worked closely with, and we get them each a smaller gift.
Really, it’s the thought that counts, not the amount! Don’t dismiss the value of a thoughtful, handwritten thank you note, too!
What Do Teachers Really Want?
I asked a couple of teacher friends to tell me about their favorite gifts. None of them really focused on material items. Reading with your kids at home, backing up their lessons with fun books to keep your kiddos interested outside of the classroom, and working as a united front with them were high up on the list.
My teacher friends didn’t go into this career for money or gifts. Their happiness is working with children to help them learn and understand new concepts about the world. That being said, they have received certain gifts that they loved. A mug that a child made, or an ornament. One friend received a tote bag with a student’s artwork on it that she treasures to this day.
Gift cards are suited to everyone, and that’s what makes them such a nice gift to give! When you are gifting a gift card to a teacher, you can either recruit your kiddo as a secret investigator and challenge them to try and find out some of their teacher’s interests, over the course of the year.
Or, you can fallback on certain gift cards that all teachers will love such as gift cards to: Starbucks or a local coffeeshop (for those late night grading sessions!), movie theater, restaurants, Amazon, Barnes and Noble or a local bookstore, or Target.
Teachers spend so much of their own money on supplies and books for the classroom, so another idea would be to offer to send in any items they might be running low on mid-year, so that they can hold onto more of their hard-earned money!
