Holi has got to be the most enthusiastically celebrated festival in India, and probably in the world too! Holi is celebrated on the full moon day of the Phalgun month, which heralds the end of the cold weather and the beginning of spring.

Make this Holi one of pure enjoyment for the whole family with these simple Tips to Celebrate a Safe and Eco Friendly Holi with kids.

There are many legends associated with the festival of Holi, the main one being the story of Holika. Holika was the sister of the evil king Hiranyakashyap, who was so arrogant he wanted to kill his own son Prahlad for not considering him God. Since Holika had the divine blessing of being immune to fire, she was ordered to sit in a pyre with Prahlad in her lap. However, at the last minute, Holika had a change of heart and prayed for her boon to be transferred to Prahlad instead, as a result of which the boy survived, while Holika was burnt to death.

While Holika’s legend is celebrated by lighting a bonfire, the main feature of Holi is definitely the play with colors! The application of colors is believed to have a healing effect on the body by preventing the seasonal infectious diseases. While this could have been true in the olden days when Natural Herbal colors were used, modern colors packed with chemicals actually do more harm than good.

But that doesn’t mean that you have to miss out on the fun of a Holi celebration with your family. Here is a list of 15 tips to help you celebrate a safe and eco friendly holi with kids.
