Grown and Flown Style: Transition into Fall

By: Pam Harris

Ahhhh September, my absolute favorite month of the year. The days are warm, the nights are cool.

Not only is it “Back to school” time, but it’s also “Back to me time”. I love shedding my summer skin. New haircut, new denim, new slides or loafers. And always a new little jacket. Overall, I am striving for a perfect minimalist approach, low key and casual.

Mustard yellow is a fall color I love
This season I am also on the hunt for the perfect straight leg jean. I haven’t found them yet but when I do, you will all hear about it!

Note: G&F may receive compensation from purchases made through the links in this post but the opinions are our own.

These Lou and Grey chinos are a perfect transition pant, light enough for the September sun, but warm enough for the cool nights, and the grey shouts fall.

MY LATEST VIDEOS

Everlane makes a perfect V-neck T-shirt, it comes in loads of colors and will look great with any skinny pant.

I am loving these 2 jackets, The black denim (so perfect) from J.Crew and the short army green wrap from Vince.

Last Spring I ran into a friend who was wearing black yoga pants, a grey hoodie and this fabulous puffer vest from Norma Kamali. I swore to myself I would buy it in the fall.

For some reason I have been super attracted this year to Mustard Yellow. I always thought I looked terrible in that color, but it turns out my skin loves Mustard, and this Theory sweater will look so cute with the grey skinnies.

I am a big fan of the sweater dress and this Milly Cashmere dress is very flattering, hitting you in all the right spots. The dress will be great with mules and boots, and if you throw on a black denim jacket the perfect casual girl vibe will be achieved, promise!

I am just not ready to dive into boots just yet, plus I really love mules and both of these – one from Topshop and the other from Steve Madden – will blend nicely in my fall capsule wardrobe.

And finally, a new bag. I am sort of over my totes and cross bodies and wouldn’t mind a “hobo” bag, in black of course. The Coach Hobo is a classic and the Kate Spade version is great as well.

September is the most beautiful month of the year for many reasons, but mostly because we have an opportunity to reinvent ourselves. Get rid of the stuff we never wear and make a few great purchases and live the easy life, knowing you can throw on anything and look and feel amazing.

We are Pam and Mara, Grown and Flown’s new in-house style gurus. Based in Brooklyn, we’ve been friends for over 20 years, with four boys, many proms, graduations, beach vacations and birthday dinners between us.
Mara’s been living in jeans and t-shirts working in the fashion world in London, Milan, LA, and NYC, producing editorial and ad shoots for over two decades. Pam’s been suiting up for the corporate world as a chief marketing officer in the live entertainment/sports business.

We’ve always been a little obsessed with style and how we use clothes to help us feel attractive and self-confident. You’ll often find us yelling at each other over dressing room walls, or trading texts at midnight about that one pair of size 8 boots left on sale online at Nordstrom.com. But over time, we’ve found that dressing and feeling great has become much more challenging. And that’s even more frustrating now that every moment has turned into a photo opp.

We want to feel comfortable and appropriate with our style choices so that we can face the world each morning with confidence and ease. We’re in search of cool, effortless style that makes us feel amazing and powerful at this very age. Please join us at Grown and Flown as we venture forth into this new world together, and at Facebook and Instagram @thekoolestmoms.
