Quintessential Summer Style – Weekend at the Beach

By: Pam Harris

We are headed to my friend Danielle’s home “out east” (aka The Hamptons) with her husband and 2 teenage twin boys. They’re super chill and relaxed, so I’m thinking it will probably all be very casual. But they are also a gorgeous couple (inside and out), charming and fabulous – so need to be prepared for the last minute “oh, let’s stop by so and so’s house for drinks” or “let’s go in town for cocktails!”. “Town” is East Hampton – casual but in a Gucci belt way. Red alert – this can be a little tough to navigate – how to fit in, but not look like you’re trying too hard.

Note: G&F may receive compensation from purchases made through the links in this post but the opinions are our own.

It could be a bit of a long drive out there so my comfy yet “pop out of the car looking chic” outfit  – cute white sleeveless sweater, cropped black joggers,  pants and this oh-so-soft hoodie.  All of this from Lou & Grey – walked into this store on 5th avenue and wanted everything in the store. Can mix/match all of this all weekend.
I buy these Teva sandals every summer – they’re inexpensive but very comfortable and cute, especially this version with red/light blue. I’ll wear these all weekend.
We’ll probably hang out, coffee, bagels, newspaper kind of thing, then we’re off. They’ve got a parking permit for the town beach – quintessential Long Island with white dunes and a powerful surf. It’s crowded enough to be interesting, but empty enough to feel like a get-away. Maybe a little Yacht Rock playing nearby to simultaneously bum you out and then have you singing without realizing it. This gauzy cover-all fits right in with the scene.  I’ll wear the ballet J. Crew one piece I bought at the start of the summer – but all of their bathing suits are on crazy sale there now.
It’ll be a no or low make-up weekend. Maybe just some Glossier Boy Brow gel. This sea mist spray (think aloe vera, coconut and vanilla) adds beachy texture to hair, and helps cleanse skin too.
Early wake-up for a long hike on the beach and hopefully some good one-on-one time, away from husbands and kids. I love the chevron pattern on these Outdoor Voices leggings.
Shower and quick hop to the Farmer’s Market. . I like this ocean dipped dress, and this Mango net bag. Pair it up with these inexpensive Tretorn denim paint splattered sneakers?  On the way there, we put the roof down and crank up the song of the summer – Cardi B I like it – (this is the supposedly “clean” version). Very cute!
Now it’s basically – Lather, Rinse, Repeat. With this wardrobe and a washer/drier, I could stay the week, if invited…!  Hopefully, I was prescient enough to bring a beautiful hostess gift. In this case, my husband pre-empted me and got a case of wine for them. I know he’ll insist on carrying it in – it’s may be sort of a Big Salad situation (Seinfeld).

We’ve always been a little obsessed with style and how we use clothes to help us feel attractive and self-confident. You’ll often find us yelling at each other over dressing room walls, or trading texts at midnight about that one pair of size 8 boots left on sale online at Nordstrom.com. But over time, we’ve found that dressing and feeling great has become much more challenging. And that’s even more frustrating now that every moment has turned into a photo opp.

We want to feel comfortable and appropriate with our style choices so that we can face the world each morning with confidence and ease. We’re in search of cool, effortless style that makes us feel amazing and powerful at this very age. Please join us at Grown and Flown as we venture forth into this new world together, and at Facebook and Instagram @thekoolestmoms.
