Summer Style: 7 Favorite Frocks for the Girl Who Only Wears Black

The thing is – we love black. We look great in black. Most of our summer style wardrobe is black and when we buy something and it’s not black, 99% of the time we regret it. Black never goes out of style.

Black oozes luxury and simplicity. “Luxury” is often defined as a slowing down of time, enjoying life, less about materialism and more about an emotional experience. Thats what we want to achieve with our wardrobe, to be timeless and effortless – oh and we also want to look as tall and skinny as possible, LOL. Black really is our best friend!

So, here are my seven favorite dresses for girls who only wear black, plus some awesome accessories.

I’m going to start with this Theory Maxi dress – it’s my be all and end all. Slimming, chic, goes from day to day and night to late night – what more can you ask for in a dress!

I discovered Reformation years ago when I was living on the Lower East Side in NYC. It’s a favorite of fashion bloggers for a good reason – the pieces are timeless, well-made and offered at a nice price point. It has that cool girl vibe without trying too hard. This Reformation Rou midi-dress is perfect for the hot and steamy summer ahead.

Eileen Fisher seems to know exactly what women want before they want it. Her jersey scoop-neck dress is just perfect, super easy to wear, with or without accessories. You will be the coolest mom in the room.

I bought this Vince linen asymetrical dress last month and I think I’ve already worn it 5 times. I get tons of compliments every time. I may have to get another and put it away for next year.

Diane Von Furstenberg makes women feel like a million dollars one dress at a time. I have never tried on one of her frocks that wasn’t flattering, and this DVF tencel jersey V necked dress rises to the occasion, ruched in all the right places.

Ruched plus handkerchief? Possibly the perfect combo for any dress – this strapless baby from Halston Heritage knocks it out of the park. Can’t wait to wear it with my black mules (see below!).

Yes, we are all about the jumpsuit this season and this Theory silk wide leg version is comfy and chic. Wear it with super cool sneakers. No need to go any further – it has cool mom written all over it.

These Stuart Weitzman mules will complement every single item in this post – plus your favorite denim . I’m calling them the “must have” shoe of summer 2018. (If you follow @marasingermedia on instagram, I posted a video about these shoes a few weeks ago).

Dressing all in black may lead to symptoms of color withdrawal, so if, pop on these beaded tassel beauties from Oscar de la Renta, a little tassel goes a long way,

These Prada platform brogues are a cool cross between a sneaker and a shoe. They add height and are super comfy. Throw them on with a jumpsuit for a BBQ, or simply stand around in the grocery store looking totally awesome. You deserve it.

Obsessed with the basket bag this summer, and this Ark bag from Cult Gaia is pretty sweet in black.

Last but not least, let’s discuss this iconic Gucci cross body in black. It’s been around forever, it has a tassel, it’s simple, it holds just what you need (um, does this sound like I’m describing my husband?).  No, seriously, it’s a true investment piece.

Bottom Line – yes, summer can be a great time to embrace color into your wardrobe, but don’t despair if you keep going “back to black” like us. Black feels luxurious and easy, and helps achieve that “I just threw this on” look with minimal effort.
