Summer Style at Grown and Flown: Put Some Camo In Your Life

We love hearing the breathless and exciting news that “Camo is Back!!!!!” Isn’t camo always in?

Camo can be a great focal point for summer style whether it’s just one pop in an all-white or all-black outfit (like a purse or shoes) or you’re building an outfit around an amazing pair of full-out pants, like these Re/done cargos or some Sanctuary crops.

If camo pants aren’t your thing, go for a great army green – like these avocado stone-washed Nili Lotan Tel Aviv pants.

To honor my BFF’s influence, class and elegance, let’s add two amazing summer dresses into the mix. This Vince summer utility dress is very very good. I love the green, but it comes in a rust that is out of this world. And let’s talk about the olive Paradise Dress by Aish – this works in the hot summer months, you can use it as a beach cover-up on vacation, and then in the fall pair it up with some boots and a chunky sweater.

A great way to go with cargo pants for summer style is with a basic tee, like this Comme des Garçons Play tee made from raw Japanese cotton with a purple heart and their red signature heart appliqué. Or these muscle tanks – cut perfectly, a little lose and high under the armhole.

For an evening layer, depending on how the evenings are “in your neck of the woods”,  add a pink or red moto jacket from Coach – lightweight lambskin that feels already broken in, and are also on sale.

Yeah, this one’s a splurge, but I love the look of something like casual like cargo pants topped off with something super high-end like a Gucci leather belt.

For shoes, these red Swedish Hasbeens go great with army green. I also love the contrast of the camo with the glam of my rose gold Birkenstocks.  I wore these Nike Blazers happily all over Europe, but may consider an upgrade to the Golden Goose Superstars.

For that pop of camo in an otherwise basic outfit, I have several camo bags – like the versatile Andi bag – and of course, the trusty MZ Wallace Soho bag.

Red is such a great contrast to army green – try this two-toned Clare V. bag or the red circle bag from J. Crew.

Saw these adorable mini-heart safety-pin earrings from Loren Stewart that could serve as a sweet counterpoint to the urban camo look. Sorta punk, but not very.

I have a picture of Gwen Stefani in a puffy camo jacket hanging on the bulletin board above my desk. I’ll think about her Norma Kamali coat come the fall when I am 100% certain that we’ll be hearing, once again, that “Camo is Back”…!!!!

But over time, we’ve found that dressing and feeling great has become much more challenging. And that’s even more frustrating now that every moment has turned into a photo opp.

We want to feel comfortable and appropriate with our style choices so that we can face the world each morning with confidence and ease. We’re in search of cool, effortless style that makes us feel amazing and powerful at this very age.
