Grown and Flown Spring Style: Transitions Can Be Tricky

By: Mara Singer

I always find dressing for the springtime a little tricky. While I love shedding my sweatshirts and boots, my skin is still pale and sort of dry and then sometimes in a matter of minutes it goes from hot to cold and then back to hot. (Oh wait…is that the weather or just me?)

In the last post, Pam raved about this great Vince Bomber Jacket to help layer for the spring weather, but I prefer to throw on a long cardigan – it’s cozy and makes me feel long and lean. This classic cashmere cardigan is a staple for any wardrobe and is priced very nicely.

Although I’m not a huge fan of white jeans myself – I’m making an exception for the white Cali demi-boot with a raw hem from Madewell. Pam and I both bought them in black AND blue denim in the fall (I know!!!) and we cut them a bit to make them a little shorter. I am equally obsessed with pairing the white jeans with a clean minimal shirt, and nothing says spring like this black Equipment shirt.

MY LATEST VIDEOS

The look is very 70’s very Jackie O.  Just add the c-shaped Alexis Bittar gold hoops and we will be all set for a spring day.

Unlike Pam, I refuse to shlep things around all day and I really appreciate a beautiful purse. I just bought this super cute lilac round cross body bag from Baggu. This color will really pop with the white jeans, black shirt combo.

Now that I am full steam ahead with lilac, I’m going to buy these Jeffrey Campbell lilac slides to wear all season, and I can pair them with the new chambray wide leg pants from J.Crew.

And finally, to complete my Jackie O look, I ordered this Braided Crystal Bracelet, it’s going to be my “summer piece” and I will wear it until it falls off (that’s supposed to be a good luck thing, right?)  This would also make a great gift – for a friend, your mom, even a hostess gift.

Style at Grown & Flown is a new addition to the G&F community and we are just starting to learn about what kinds of clothes and fashion people are interested in. So we thought it would be interesting to share the top 3 most clicked on items so far.  Drum roll please….(I always wanted an excuse to say that, lol)…

First of all – the Clare V. Marcelle Maison Leather Tote was the most popular item, readers loved it, bought it and commented on it.

Coming in a close second was the Eileen Fisher halter dress. The rust color was selling out quickly, so I’m updating to black. As they say — Run, don’t walk!

And you will be able to run, because in third place were the pink Veja Sneakers. Well, those are sold out in most sizes, but these classic Nike low blazer LE sneakers with the millennial pink swoosh are awesome. Pam just got back from Copenhagen and she logged about 10 miles per day in those puppies.

And what a great spring outfit I am envisioning. The black halter dress, the lilac slides and the gold tote –  totally cool, effortless, chic. Now that’s what we’re talking about!

What to Wear: More Ideas for End-of-the-School Year Events

Based in Brooklyn, we’ve been friends for over 20 years, with four boys, many proms, graduations, beach vacations and birthday dinners between us.

We’ve always been a little obsessed with style and how we use clothes to help us feel attractive and self-confident. You’ll often find us yelling at each other over dressing room walls, or trading texts at midnight about that one pair of size 8 boots left on sale online at Nordstroms. But over time, we’ve found that dressing and feeling great has become much more challenging. And that’s even more frustrating now that every moment has turned into a photo opp.

We want to feel comfortable and appropriate with our style choices so that we can face the world each morning with confidence and ease. We’re in search of cool, effortless style that makes us feel amazing and powerful at this very age.

Please join us at Grown & Flown as we venture forth into this new world together.
