Everyone needs a #Fashionbestie and I definitely hit the lottery as I have quite a few BFF Fashionbesties!

We all have very strong and diverse opinions on what to wear, when to wear it and how to wear it. And we all consider ourselves quite the fashion aficionados. Each of my girlfriends has their own unique style, and while we may not always agree on every fashion choice, we are get on the same page about that one important item that we feel is a total game changer. Whether it’s the “Markle Sparkle”, “THE shoe of the season” or “This product will absolutely change your life” – my friends’ fashion advice is never ending.

My friend Leslie showed up at lunch last week rocking these wide-leg pants from Eileen Fisher. I couldn’t stop oohing, aahing and OMG’ing. When she walked into the restaurant everyone turned around to stare. I swear, the swoosh sound of the fabric of those wide legs was killer. I had to order them from my phone that minute.

I have a great friend who sends the best birthday presents, and I received this Kendra Scott “Elaina” statement bracelet in 14-karat rose gold from her on my most recent happy day. I like to think it’s a friendship bracelet, I wear it every day, and I think of all our fun times together whenever I glance at my wrist.

Three years ago my husband and I moved away from our home in NYC – we decided to try something new in Charleston. But we left behind all our friends and there were times when I was feeling very lonely in our new home, I won’t lie. But my best friend Pam (you know her as co-editor of Style at Grown and Flown) sensing I was at a low (as besties do) immediately shipped me a package of my favorite, amazingly soft, just perfect T-shirts in soft satin jersey from Alternative. She really is a “fashion bestie”. (BTW – loved Charleston, but moved back to NYC).

I have a friend Chris who always has the best totes. Now, I’m not a tote girl, but when I saw her parading around with this Clare V. Simple Tote, I simply had to have it. Now I travel with it everywhere.

My sister considers herself the sneaker expert. She has so many pairs that I will take her word for it when she says these Nike Women’s Roshe Two Knit Casual Shoes are the best sneakers ever. Who am I to argue? I mean if you can’t trust your sister…

I have never met Meghan Markle, but I know for sure that if we met we would be instant besties. And she would tell me “Mara, this is the perfect dress!” She has worn this Black Halo Jackie O Belted Dress to more official Royal engagements than any other item, and that is a stamp of approval I am all good with. I recently ordered the dress and it’s very, very flattering, chic and simple. In other words, it has that Markle Sparkle.

After I purchased these J.Crew leopard sandals last month, I sent a photo to my sister-in-law and she bought them and then her bestie bought them. Now we are a fashion trio. They look great with my cropped J. Crew jumpsuit, and basically any dress I throw on. I’m thinking I may need a back-up pair to carry me into fall (in case they sell out).

Last month I was invited to a trunk show at Bloomingdales. While I rarely go these events, when I found out that SJP herself was going to be there I was going to make it no matter what. I spied these Glitter T-Strap Flats on my idol and had to have them on the spot. I plan on breaking them out as soon as summer hits the streets of NYC. They are going to look great with all my summer dresses.

My Besties and I always on the hunt for products that will reduce our puffy eyes after maybe a too long night of drinking a little too much wine (sometimes we are overserved). This Milk Makeup Cooling Water is the perfect answer to our prayers. It’s packed with caffeine and anti-oxidants that wake up your skin and I feel like it instantly makes my eyes look and feel perky. I keep mine in the fridge for an extra little added dose of heaven.

I have been very lucky in the friends lottery. For the most part, my friends are loyal, smart, fun, (wine drinkers), no-nonsense women. There are four of us that take a girl’s trip every year. This past March we spent five days in the old city in Cartagena, Colombia. It was a shopper’s paradise, to say the least. Beautiful cobblestone streets with gorgeous old houses painted vibrant colors, and on every corner we found something we just had to buy! Basket purses, pom pom blankets, feather wallets and much more. This bamboo basket bag from Cult Gaia reminds me of the beautiful wares we spied on the street.  I didn’t get one then, but I won’t make that mistake again.

While we differ in our style and fashion choices – the one thing we all have in common is that we want to look cool and feel great, And sometimes you need a little help from your friends.

We are Pam and Mara, Grown and Flown’s new in-house fashion gurus. Based in Brooklyn, we’ve been friends for over 20 years, with four boys, many proms, graduations, beach vacations and birthday dinners between us.
Mara’s been living in jeans and t-shirts working in the fashion world in London, Milan, LA, and NYC, producing editorial and ad shoots for over two decades. Pam’s been suiting up for the corporate world as a chief marketing officer in the live entertainment/sports business.
We’ve always been a little obsessed with style and how we use clothes to help us feel attractive and self-confident. You’ll often find us yelling at each other over dressing room walls, or trading texts at midnight about that one pair of size 8 boots left on sale online at Nordstroms. But over time, we’ve found that dressing and feeling great has become much more challenging. And that’s even more frustrating now that every moment has turned into a photo opp.

We want to feel comfortable and appropriate with our style choices so that we can face the world each morning with confidence and ease. We’re in search of cool, effortless style that makes us feel amazing and powerful at this very age.

Please join us at Grown & Flown as we venture forth into this new world together.
